This is an initiative for us, by us. A project born out of countless frustrations of the working class experience– the experience of exploitation, discrimination, and helplessness in the face of bosses, landlords, and the rich.
If you’re here, you probably know what we’re talking about. Perhaps you were coerced into doing unpaid labor. Perhaps you had your wages withheld from you or were fired from your job for demanding fair pay or basic rights. Perhaps your boss refuses to address unsafe conditions in the workplace. Perhaps you work day in and day out just to barely afford rent, only for your landlord to ignore faulty appliances, mold, or pest problems. Perhaps you were served with a sudden eviction notice and don’t know what you can do.
We believe there is much we can do to stand up to those who get away with such common injustices, but it requires us to work together. It’s a cliche, but it’s true that there is power in numbers, that if we take the time to stand behind one another then we are all stronger, happier, and more fulfilled for it, and that that is what mutual aid is all about.
We formed this collective to facilitate collective defense. The idea is that, by reaching out to the solidarity network for help, you will, in turn, help others that follow you. We take on battles to learn, adjust our strategy, and win small victories that will compound into a working class that knows how to defend itself, united.
We are here to change precedents, to change the way things work around this city (and beyond). We’re glad you’re here.
